Mastering, CD mastering, audio mastering why use a pro?

People ask us why we need so much gear. Well its very simple – you cannot do pro mastering with just a computer and a few plug-in (and it’s only digital) and two monitors. When your product is finished it will be listened to on many make of speakers and monitors so if you’re doing it with just a computer the sound is only as good as your sound card Software mastering recalculates the numbers (samples) and if used too aggressively causes some shrinkage of the sound stage and makes it sound more sterile, when compared to other analogue mastering. Everyone knows that if you want to attract people to listen to your music it better be the best sound possible from the recording and the mix and that is where the state of the art high end gear matters the most – without them you could do it yourself and get a very good result but probably not a professional mastering sound. That is what makes your music sound the way you want -the precision and accuracy of digital and the warmth of the analogue tube.

We have the great pleasure to announce the installation of the API 5500 dual EQ in our mastering studio facility.

The lineage of the 5500 circuit can be traced back to the original 550 equalizer designed by Saul Walker, the founder of Automated Processes Inc. The 550 was designed as a console equalizer for mastering studio which, due to the architecture of the recording console, uses an unbalanced input. Because the ergonomics of a console dictate that the controls take up little space, sometimes the number of included functions can be limited. The 5500 is specifically designed to address these limitations. It has a balanced input, a true straight-wire bypass, an integrated power supply with noiseless muting, and a range control that expands it versatility to mastering studios applications.

Audio file format for audio mastering

Favorite audio mastering file format to send to the mastering studio.

WAV or AIF (AIFF) 24 bit audio file format at 44.1kHz sample rate or up to 96kHz and the stereo master buss level at minus 3db (-3dbfs).

this is very important for the headroom to work with and get the best sonic and loudness result .

Please be aware. If you write a 24 bit audio Wave file to a blank CD it will become automatically a 16 bit audio file.

If you use an AIF (AIFF) audio file on a blank CD it will remain in 24 bit format.

The Weiss DS1 is now upgraded to DS1 MKIII with High resolution.

The TC system 6000 Mastering/reverb is now in version 4.00.

Audioplexus is rewiring some of the studio to facilitate audio for television and surround sound for the motion picture and video game industry. Previously Audioplexus has specialised in stereo music and audio mastering including restoration.

Audioplexus has upgraded its software and synchronisation set up to facilitate to integration of image and motion picture. Also frame per frame graphic audio post production. We have taken the bold step to surround and 5.1 set up for mastering and audio editing in all formats. The new setup will make it easy to incorporate all types of format for video and broadcasting, including HD.
